Trust is an important factor in every relationship. We learn to trust our parents as very young children, and then we learn to trust others through our extended families. These patterns of trust may be strengthened or weakened by childhood experiences, such as being bullied by cruel children at school or dealing with untrustworthy adults in our lives. The patterns of trust and mistrust we learn in our formative years may surface to disrupt our relationships as adults.

Many couples strive to find a common ground for their interests and compatibilities, but it is the natural differences between two people that threaten to bring about the ends of otherwise healthy relationships. Believe it or not, most happy couples actually disagree and bicker as much as most unhappy couples. How each partner handles the disagreements goes a long way toward determining whether the couple is happy or unhappy.

Simply fleeing an unhappy relationship won’t ensure you find a happy relationship. You may need to learn about why your feelings emerge as they do, and why you express yourself the way you do. Strong couples depend on each other and give to each other as unconditionally as possible. Unconditional love depends on trust and a shared desired for the success of the relationship.

In the field of couples counseling Seattle offers a wide range of therapists and psychologists. Partners who want to renew their feelings for each other and build a successful relationship may want to seek out an experienced couples therapist to work on understanding why their conflicts lead to unhappiness. Understanding the meanings behind your feelings may help you disarm some of the causes of your continuing grief.

No one wants an uncertain future, but the future of every troubled relationship is largely unwritten. You and your partner still have the opportunity to learn how to grow together toward a healthy, happy life that you both find to be enriching and rewarding.

After seven years of teaching, I’ve realized how often individuals discredit their abilities and knowledge. I have been the fodder for people who thought I was super intelligent because I have a masters degree. I believe that after seventeen years of school and numerous students taught, education never makes one person better than another. Yes, we can form our conclusions by the way a person speaks, dresses and carries themselves, but my resounding experience is our conclusions are rarely, if ever, completely accurate.

It took me thirty-one years to realize people can be cruel and run rampant with jealousy. I may be self-conscious and carry as much anxiety as a chihuahua jacked up on caffeine, but I have always prided myself with a 99% inability to feel jealous. I have never seen the need in it. Whatever anyone wants they can get. Find a way, there is always a way. These are the principles that I know. I had to experience failure, embarrassment, heart-crushing, drop to my knees, crying moments, and how to accept a compliment, before I knew them, but I believe completely that jealousy has no happy ending.

When you love, whether it be a man, woman, yourself, art, music, etc., I think you see the beauty in that person, place or thing and it is impossible to understand the negative darkness trying to penetrate your positive light.

Humans are naturally attracted to light and my hardest lessons have come from dwelling in the darkness that some harbor and covet. Maybe we don’t agree with the choices and behavior of a non-celebrity or those of various elements of fame, with either, is it necessary to lie about them? I have found that drama occurs whether we are happy or not. Being who we are, licking our wounds that may never heal, and feeling happy with our days, is the best light anyone can shine. I think a secret to happiness is making the choice to ignore rather than indulge in the darkness of jealousy’s drama created over being your true self.

If you are in a relationship that has lasted longer than six months, chances are you will start hearing this question soon, if you haven’t heard it already. Most of the time it will come from nosey relatives or from caring friends, but no matter who it comes from, it can be quite annoying. While it is nice to think of yourself marrying Mr. or Miss Right, there is no reason to rush things.

Marriage is such an intense and important thing to uphold, you really cannot afford to get it wrong! So, before you start stressing on how often your family and friends ask you when the big date is, you should know what you want. Of course, if you have been dating for years, and there is still no talk of marriage, you might want to sit your partner down to chat about your future together.

Overall, you should just blow this question off with a sarcastic answer like “In 35 years!” to get your friends and family to leave you alone for the moment. If your partner is near, he or she will likely appreciate you addressing the issue with humor as well. After all, what you decide to do as a couple is really only your business.

Ancient legend foretold of a sacred time of renewal of the human spirit. The Muses of Inspiration granted a blessing on earth and created a window of time when human beings can create a fresh start. During this phase, all the mistakes, regrets, missed opportunities and errors in judgment are purged from the human memory in the primordial fires. It is a time when all fear of failure is transformed into strength of character and clarity of purpose. With proper preparation and humility we are told the human soul can make a request of the universe and our inner being: to transmute the flame of regret into the torch of dreams fulfilled and ignite the fire of burning desire in the heart of the seeker.

The legend was concealed to prevent its power from being used for less than honorable purposes and was hidden in the heart of each new being born on the earth. Each new baby is born with the spark of truth and the germ of their life’s purpose on earth. If the human pursued their heart’s desire, the spark would begin to glow and take hold and lead the seeker to success. If the human took the path of least resistance and settled for a less than glorious life, the ember would grow cold and life would be empty, no matter the achievements. There was only one magical time of year when all sparks could be renewed and unite into a glorious blaze of triumph, at the birth of the New Year.

The Legend of the Sleeping Giants

As each year of human existence passed, the flames of truth buried in the hearts of humanity grew dimmer and dimmer. The nine sister Muses, the guardians of inspiration for the human race, were saddened. Did the humans not know that their lives were meant to be a blessing, full of love and abundance? Why did they live like insects, small and insignificant; did they not remember they were Giants, with the power to manifest wonders? Could they not see how beautiful and glorious they are? Why did they choose suffering over joy? How could they create poverty over wealth? Why did they choose anger over love? Did they not know that they had the power within them to create a magical world of joy? It was as if a veil of sleep had fallen on earth and humans became the victims of life instead of the original intention, which was to be the Victor. All a human had to do was follow their heart’s desire, protect their thoughts from negativity and focus on love.

The nine sister Muses being of one mind declared a moratorium on Strife and set out to create a remedy to aid the sleeping human race. They called upon the qualities of the Ancient Ones to restore balance on earth:

They besieged Mnemosyn (Memory) to free the minds of humans from the past. With a blank slate each spirit could start anew. The Muses requested the following gifts to be bestowed on humankind.

Eros (Love) fills the heart with compassion, first for self, and with that peace comes unconditional love which flows to others.

Himerus (Desire), who lives in delight, breathes new life on the spark of truth in each heart and renews the passion for life.

Father Time granted a window in which humans could purge the past. By the stroke of midnight on December 31st each year, the past must be completed and all issues must be burned in the fires of regret for the rebirth of spirit to occur.

The Muses called on the collective strengths, wisdom and powers of the ancient Gods and Goddesses to support the humans in facing their fears, making amends and forgiving themselves.

Zelus (Emulation) granted humans the ability to recognize their gifts and qualities in others and the vision to find their mentors.

Cratos (Strength) fortified the human will with courage to face the things that must be faced for the human spirit to grow.

Eos (Dawn) promised a new beginning every 24 hours and Helious (Sun) gave warmth and encouragement. Soliel (Moon) promised rest and recuperation of the body.

Eunomia (Order) reminds humans of the first law of abundance, order in all things, for as within our hearts and mind, so is our outside world revealed.

Dike (Justice) reminds humans to forgive all debts, right all wrongs and release those who have hurt us. For as we forgive are we forgiven.

Eirene (Peace) provides the silent mind in which we can hear our inner voice guide us to our unique truth.

Charities (Graces) endows the human spirit with gentleness, so that we tread lightly on this earth and bless those we encounter.

And when the sister Muses saw the stage was set for a glorious rebirth of humanity, they made this decree:

“Every human who accepts these gifts, lets go of the past and blesses each other with forgiveness and grace will be released from the pain of their past errors. They will be granted the guidance and protection of Metis (Thought) and receive the gifts of Nike (Victory) in the year to come.”

The Muses cautioned humankind to guard their dreams from the effects of negative people and events. “Tell only one who will hold your vision as dearly as you hold it when you are nurturing the seeds of possibility. Build a fortress around your mind so only positive thoughts are entertained. The laws of the Universe govern the results. Whatever thoughts you plant will reap a harvest. Be vigilant to plant thoughts of love and positive energy to reap a harvest of abundance.” And so Calliope, the chief of all the Muses sent this blessing to earth:

“Children of the Universe, the time of renewal is upon you. By the stroke of midnight on December 31st you must complete the cycle of the past, forgive yourself and your brothers and sisters, be thankful for your blessings and stake your claim on your future.”

And with this gift received and acted upon, the embers in the hearts of humankind started to glow and burn brightly. The Muses and the heavens saw our lights burn brighter and brighter as we reached out and touched the lives of all around us. We traded our weapons for plowshares to feed each other, we shared our gifts with those less fortunate and with each life that was renewed with love, the gifts of abundance and joy filled the lives of all humankind.

May this next year bring you all the love, health, wealth, passion, happiness and fun that you deserve.

Please feel free to pass this legend on to all those that you love and admire. Together we can heal each other, one soul at a time. We would love to know how far our little story goes and who it touches, so if it touched you, please email me

Looking for ways to cut costs on your wedding but still have the event you’ve always dreamed about? You can save a great deal of money by hosting your ceremony outside in a beautiful park, at the beach, on a hilltop or even in your yard. (Of course, having the ceremony in your backyard is the cheapest – but not everyone has a yard big enough to accommodate today’s hundred-plus guest lists).

Here are five quick tips if you’re thinking about an outdoor ceremony that can save you money all around.

* Choose an open public forum that does not generally have a great deal of people trying to access it, and remember to get the right permits beforehand. The less demand there is for a space, the cheaper it’s likely to be (and easier to obtain).

* Opting for an ordained minister rather than a priest is often cheaper. Just be sure to check that whoever you choose can legally perform wedding ceremonies in your area.

* You can forego the chairs and have the guests standing as long as you host a short ceremony. A nice white or themed linen on the ground for guests to stand on is an elegant touch.

* When going with outdoor ceremony, people often opt for a portable arch because it is easy to transport and just as elegant as more permanent structures.

* Outdoor ceremonies open the door to many themes that can greatly reduce the cost of your wedding and reception. For example, Hawaiian themes and beach themes can help you save money on formal wear and decorations because people having an outdoor wedding are often casually or “island dressed.” It makes the ceremony more comfortable for the guests as well, because they’re also able to dress casually.

And here’s another plus: outdoor ceremonies can immediately switch from ceremony to reception without changing venues, which saves some extra money on travel fees such as limos, and eliminates the need to rent two venues. For example, the Hawaiian theme mentioned above would be a great way to have a luau or pig-roast reception. You might also want to consider a theme that lets you have a picnic for your reception party, or a beach party or bonfire – all of which are acceptable alternatives for the couple on a budget.

My wife torments me everyday because I had an affair. I wish that I hadn’t cheated on her, it was wrong and I feel so much grief and shame over it. I just wish she would quit rubbing my nose in it. I know that she hates me, otherwise, why else would she continue to torment me with my past? Why won’t she forgive me? What can I do?

It is quite normal for a wife to be angry, bitter, and resentful towards her husband after he had an affair, and it’s perfectly okay for her to get those feelings out of her system. Even if that means to scream, shout, and name call. All of these feelings and actions are all very normalfor a time.

But there comes a time when a repentant husband shouldn’t have to take the abuse anymore, and this is when he needs to detach! Detaching with love is a necessity to keep his psyche well balanced and healthy.

1. Detach with love

Even though a wife is unable to forgive today or tomorrow doesn’t mean that she will not eventually come around and decide that her behavior isn’t getting her anywhere with her husband, especially when she sees that he is not letting her moments of unkindness and cruelty get to him.

As hard as it may seem to do, a husband ought to try and forgive his wife for her inability to forgive him. The reason for this is so he can detach from her emotional outbursts properly. If a husband is holding in negative feelings towards his wife, detaching will be difficult to do. He will feel antagonism in his heart, which is not detaching but hanging on to her abusive words.

I am a faithful advocate on the necessity of detachment. But knowing “how” and “when” to detach takes discernment. Always detach with love. You do this by telling your wife that you love her but for your own spiritual well-being, you will not take the emotional abuse any longer. It is now time for you to get out of the house and go get a cup of coffee somewhere, go for a drive, take a walk, go see a friend, go to a movie, etc. If for some reason you can’t get out of the house, get some earplugs.

Be consistent in your efforts even if she starts in on you in the middle of the night. Your wife needs to see that YOU are not going to be bullied around any longer. Don’t scream or name call back at her but always remain calm with her. Tell her again that you are sorry that you had an affair and that you love her. Tell her when she is ready to TALK, not abuse, you will be there for her. Walk away and leave! Come back in an hour or two, and if she starts in on you again, leave again.

When detaching with love there are 5 things to remember:

1. Be consistent

2. Remain Calm (don’t fight back)

3. Tell her you are sorry again

4. Tell her you love her

5. Be ready to talk with her when she is ready to talk

By doing these things you will be detaching with love.

2. Always remain kind and considerate

I know it is difficult to be kind while she is ranting and raving and calling you all kinds of names but this IS what will finally get her to express herself properly. She NEEDS to see that her emotional outbursts against you do not intimidate you, and the name calling does not disturb you.

You aren’t going to take it. Your spirit is tired of the trespassing and can’t take the emotional and mental abuse anymore! Remember, you love her, you’re sorry as heck, and you have remained calm, and you are ready to talk when she is ready to talk?

3. Pray for her – let her know that you have prayed for her to forgive you and to stop disrespecting you. Stay faithful through your actions. Tell you wife every night before falling asleep that you were faithful to her. Let her hear these words from you consistently for a month, Just say, “I love you, today I was faithful.”

“And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins” Mark 11:25

4. Keep your sense of judgment always on God

Having someone continually harass you, telling you what a lousy husband you are can wear down a guys self worth and make him feel miserable about himself. But it doesn’t have to be this way. By learning to detach with love and keeping yourself spiritually fit you can have complete clarity of mind to continue on with respect towards self and love towards those who are not so loving.

It is paramount that you continue in prayer by seeking God’s wisdom for your marriage, otherwise, you may become weak again and backslide, and I know that you don’t want that for your self.

“Blessed is the man who preserves under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him,” James 1:12

If you are carrying around negative feelings about yourself, remember that God has forgiven you and that you are a new person in Christ, equipped with the knowledge and wisdom to get past the trials and tribulations that are now embracing your life. Learn form your mistakes (sins) and grow out from those mistakes knowing that you are a worthy and respectable husband and person.

Someone said something unkind about me. Are my feelings hurt? Yes. Should they be? No. How do I overcome my hurt? By detaching myself. “Turning it off,” until I can figure out what lies behind it. If it is retaliation for an unkindness I did, let me correct my fault. If not, I have no responsibility in the matter. Should I ignore or challenge? No, I will let it go; least said, soonest mended. Nothing can hurt me unless I allow it to. When I am pained by anything that happens outside of myself, it is not that thing which hurts me, but the way I think and feel about it.(One Day At A Time In AL-ANON)

Be patient with your wife for a bit longer. Knowing how to detach is the first step in taking care of your self. Let your wife see she can trust the man she married. Your new attitude will reflect on to her and she will finally come out of her feelings and decide to forgive with the completeness of her heart.

A patient man has great understanding…Proverbs 14:29

Selecting a divorce attorney is a critical decision making process. The person who you hire will be responsible for obtaining or maintaining your custody rights to your children, your property interests, and depending upon the side you are one, either minimizing or maximizing your support rights.

In reality, selecting a divorce attorney is also an incredibly stressful experience. Do it right and you can breath easy. Do it wrong and you will spend years making up for losses that might have been prevented.

There are a few tried and true tactics that you should be using when you select a divorce attorney. Before you even begin, you need to identify the type of case that you will be involved in. Will you be mediating your divorce? Will you be negotiating? Or, will your case be one of those cases that goes to court and becomes a knock down, drag out divorce litigation?

There are divorce attorneys who specialize in these different types of cases and you need to hire the type of divorce attorney who is best suited to the type of case that you have. If you need to deal with a knock down, drag out litigation, you do not want a mediation attorney trying to protect your interests. Likewise, if you are going through mediation, the last thing you want is a divorce attorney who will try to create issues and move you towards litigation.

So, step one in the process of selecting a divorce attorney is to identify the type of case that you have. Next, start asking people for help. Since the divorce rate in the United States is at about 50%, chances are you know at least several people who have been through a divorce. Ask about their process, how they selected a divorce
attorney, and how their attorney performed for them.

AFter you have received the names of several divorce attorneys that you received from asking other people, go online and start researching those attorneys and others. Many divorce attorneys have websites, write articles, and advertise on divorce portal websites. You can get quite a bit of information about how an attorney approaches cases and treats clients by reviewing their website.

After you have reviewed the divorce attorney websites, make a list of at least two and as many as five divorce attorneys who you think you will be comfortable speaking with. Call the offices of those divorce attorneys and schedule consultations. Some of those attorneys will charge you for a consultation; the more experience the attorney has, the more likely that you will have to pay for time with that attorney.

When you attend a consultation with a divorce attorney, be prepared. Make an outline of the history of your marriage and the problems facing you now. If you or your spouse has filed any papers in court, make sure you bring them with you. Bring one or two years tax returns or a recent financial statement so that the divorce attorney can review some of your financial data before being asked questions about “results”.

Make sure you ask each divorce attorney questions about how that attorney’s office operates in response to client phone calls, emails, or other inquiries or needs. If you will be working with a divorce attorney who has no other attorney in their office, be prepared to wait in line when you have a need for a response. That attorney will have other clients who have needs just as significant as yours, and an attorney can be responsive to only one client at a time. Even with that drawback, there may be a divorce attorney who you feel is just right for you who is also a solo practitioner. That is a trade off that you may have to get comfortable with.

After you have completed all of the consultations and reviewed the answers to all of your questions, decide which divorce attorney you felt most comfortable with and which one you believe will work with you to get the type of results that you want.results that you want.
